The Hippocampus School Library outreach programme was initiated to emphasize the pivotal role of reading in education and supports schools in running their libraries as centres of joyful reading and learning. Over the years, the Hippocampus team has worked with schools across India through short term and long term engagements with a range of library-focused services including book curation, fun reading programmes, librarian workshops, and library celebration events. The intent is to support school libraries evolve into the vibrant reading and learning spaces they are meant to be. Towards this, Hippocampus co-ordinates author/ illustrator / storyteller visits to schools. In 2010, the Goethe Institute, Max Mueller Bhavan, Delhi, identified Hippocampus as their library partner in India with the objective of promoting reading through school libraries. Every school library service and product designed by Hippocampus is focused on helping connect children to books in ways that could promote voluntary and independent reading.
